How long can you expect luxury vinyl flooring to last?
When installed properly and taken care of well, luxury vinyl (LVT) can last 25 years or more. This is true whether it’s in the form of luxury vinyl tile or plank.
Wear layer: the floor’s bodyguard
This floor can accommodate kids, pets, and the heaviest foot traffic.
It's layered, which makes it five times thicker than the original product. A transparent, strong melamine layer is just over the printed design layer. It protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents. It even helps keep spills from absorbing.
At the very top is a clear urethane finish. It adds extra shine and strength.
Waterproof from bottom to top
This means your luxury vinyl plank or tile can be submerged or spilled on without consequence. There's no curling, peeling, or staining.
But there are things you can do, too
With vinyl plank (also referred to as LVP flooring), you get a beautiful simulation of hardwood. It's used anywhere, including living and bedrooms; you might also choose to install it in a busy, leak-prone room.
Busy rooms generate a lot of dirt and grit. They can scratch the floor, so sweep or vacuum daily. Wipe spills right away, so stains don't set.
Damp mop periodically with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy-shine promoting cleaners as they can damage the finish and dull the floor.
The same philosophy applies to the square, tile-sized pieces (also called LVT flooring). If you feel you need more shine on either form, seek the advice of a flooring professional.
